For this week’s challenge, I’m revisiting some favourite places from my travels..
In response to The Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge.
A close friend and I decided to have a getaway (with babies in tow) to our home town of Sydney, and we couldn’t have picked a better weekend for it. It was a tough gig – not!
In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Connected.”
I have two literal examples to share this week. The first one is a monkey who was kind enough to pose for me as it made it’s way up a very spiky door. Those spikes don’t look very comfortable, but the monkey didn’t seem to mind..
The wires that you can see in the second photo are what connected the funicular we were travelling in to the contraptions which made it work, and which would bring us safely back to earth. You can’t really think too long about how flimsy those things are – just as well the views were amazing enough to provide a worthy distraction!
In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “From Every Angle.”
These beautiful clogs were like little jewels, each one carefully made and painted by hand..
This week’s photo challenge has brought out some great examples of creepy things from my fellow weekly photo challengers. The glassy eyed baby dolls in particular just give me the shivers!
Here are some examples which I have encountered on my travels.
Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu would rate as one of the creepiest places I’ve visited. The purpose for which this spectacular Incan city was built is still unclear, although there are theories of it being a place of learning, a place of worship, or a retreat for the Incan royal family. Whatever its use may have been, and beauty aside, there is a very discomforting aura about this place – not helped by the likely human sacrifices which took place here.
The photo on the left is a place just outside the main complex, referred to by our Peruvian guide as “a very bad place.” Notice weird black stuff oozing from the rock. I wasnt brave enough to get any closer to see what it was. The photo on the right is an example of the otherworldly feel to the place, created by its unique architecture.
Creepy Crawlies of the Amazon Jungle
A small selection of the natives of the Amazon – a piranha, a tarantula in its nest and a giant unidentified bug of some kind – once again, I wasn’t game to get any closer.
In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Beneath Your Feet.”
Beneath my feet lies a glacier. It was quite a surreal experience – like standing on top of a glassy blue sea..
For this week’s photo challenge, I managed to find some compliant (or maybe they’re just shameless) fish who remained still enough to be snuck upon..
In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Symbol.”
So many possibilities this week, but if I was to choose one, it would be this image, which to me symbolises steadfastness against the passage of time. Imagine all the things these symbols have seen..
A few years ago I was in Rajasthan India, a part of the world filled with the most beautiful antique doors, which beckoned indiscriminately towards humble homes and ornate palaces alike. These are a few examples from my trip. I have also include a shot I took on the Inca Trail of a doorway high up in the mountains, looking out onto the misty mountainside. I think this photo captures the ‘otherworldliness’ of this place quite well..
Some difficult decisions were made in determining the inspiration for this week’s photo challenge, however I think what keeps me coming back, and moving forward searching for more, is that place where water meets the sky, and the colours they make together.
